Who We Are, What We Do

North Texas Samoyed Rescue, Inc. (NTSRI) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) (tax-exempt) corporation. We are based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, but we are registered with and work with many shelters, humane societies and individuals in five states: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Kansas. NTSRI was formed in 2002 by a dedicated group of individuals who love animals in general and the Samoyed breed in particular. Individual contributors to NTSRI's efforts have been actively involved animal rescue work for more than 30 years.

Rescued Samoyeds find their way to NTSRI from many sources, primarily through cooperation with local animal shelters and owner surrenders.  On arrival into our program, the dogs are examined by a veterinarian and treated for any health problems they may have, including heartworms, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Unlike some rescue organizations, NTSRI does not "warehouse" our rescues in boarding facilities. Instead, we secure volunteer foster homes for newly arrived rescues. Foster caregivers bring the rescues into their own homes and integrate them with their families and activities. In this way, the rescued Samoyed begins right away to have relief from the stress of shelter life or previous abusive situations. Foster families also evaluate the rescued Samoyed's behavior traits and use positive reinforcement training when necessary. This results in socialized, happy and well-adjusted Samoyeds, ready to be adopted into permanent homes.

Foster care is a labor of pure love, since these volunteers receive no compensation (other than reimbursement of veterinary expenses, subject to availability of funds) and often spend considerable amounts of money out of their own pockets.

Prospective adopters are carefully screened by NTSRI, to ensure that the placement of the rescued Sammy will be a good "fit" for both dog and owner.  As part of this process, prospective adopters are required to complete a Rescue Adoption Application and to allow NTSRI to verify veterinarian and other references, as well as perform a home check prior to adoption. A Rescue Adoption Agreement will also be required, if the application is approved and the adopter selects a Samoyed from our program.

NTSRI requests a donation from persons who wish to adopt a rescued Samoyed.  This donation helps defray some of the costs involved in the dog's rescue and rehabilitation; however, in most cases the actual cost of caring for a rescued Samoyed and preparing him for his new home is far more!

North Texas Samoyed Rescue, Inc. is a proud member of the Samoyed Rescue Alliance, a coalition of Samoyed rescue groups throughout the country.  The Samoyed Rescue Alliance also maintains the most comprehensive, complete listing of Samoyed rescue organizations in the United States, and it promotes ethical practices and education while always keeping the welfare of the dogs as its primary concern.
