FOURTH ANNUAL RESCUE REUNION: OUR BEST YET!!!
The forecast may have called for sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s, but there was a "blizzard" of sorts on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Stone Tables at White Rock Lake. That's the day that North Texas Samoyed Rescue, Inc. held its Fourth Annual Rescue Reunion. Thirty-two of the beautiful white dogs and 45 of the humans they own attended the picnic. This is a record-setting attendance! People and pets were treated to a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings. Members of North Texas Samoyed Fanciers, the AKC-affiliated breed club for the D/FW area, also coordinated a variety of activities, such as a peanut butter eating contest, bobbing for hot dogs, and a rescue parade. Prize ribbons and doggie toys were awarded, and everyone went home a winner - but not before the traditional group photo was taken.
MYSTICS, MUTTS & MOONPIES WAS FUN IN OCTOBER
For the third consecutive year, NTSRI was in attendance at the "Mystics, Mutts & Moonpies" event on Saturday, October 13. Dog-related organizations from all over the Metroplex converged on the Stone Tables at White Rock Lake in Dallas for a day of fun and food with their canine friends. There were vendors to visit, games to play, live bands, and even a pet "psychic"! NTSRI board member Colleen FitzGerald was on hand to offer Canine Good Citizen (CGC) tests, the proceeds from which benefited NTSRI.

WANTED: FOSTER HOMES!!!!
Fostering is a very rewarding experience. It basically involves providing a safe and clean temporary home, food and water -- and love, of course -- for the rescued Samoyed until such time as a "forever home" can be found. In some instances, it may also involve administering medications (paid for by NTSRI), or possibly transporting the dog for veterinary visits. Foster "parents" need not have a lot of previous experience -- just a love of dogs (especially Samoyeds) and a desire to help us save a life. There is no "salary" or other remuneration involved -- just the reward of knowing that you are helping a Samoyed that otherwise would have no place to go. Many people volunteer to foster dogs as a way to get to know the breed and the individual dog, to see if it would be a good "fit" on a permanent adoption basis. And foster "parents" are never alone -- NTSRI is here to help and support you in any way we can. Foster homes are desperately needed!!
