RESCUES AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Adoption Policy

Saving the lives of these wonderful dogs is only the beginning of North Texas Samoyed Rescue, Inc.'s mission.  Our ultimate goal is to see them placed in loving, forever homes where both the dog and its adoptive family can live "happily ever after." To this end, we make every effort to find the best fit of rescued Sammy with adoptive home.  Except in very rare instances, unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of NTSRI, adopters must reside no more than 250 miles from our home base in Dallas, Texas.

Each rescued Samoyed that enters our program is immediately examined by a veterinarian and treated for any medical problems that may exist. The dog is also vaccinated, placed on heartworm preventative, and microchipped for identification purposes. Intact dogs that come into NTSRI's rescue program are spayed or neutered; NTSRI does not allow intact dogs to be adopted under any circumstances.  Each dog is then placed in foster care with an NTSRI volunteer, who evaluates the dog for personality and behavioral traits.

Prospective adopters are required to complete NTSRI's Adoption Application.  The information on the application helps us to determine which, if any, of the dogs in our program best fits your preferences, lifestyle, and home environment.  After we receive and review your Adoption Application, we will be in a position to set up an appointment for you to meet with us, interact with the dog(s) and interview the foster caregiver.  This initial visit will be done on our premises. Before an adoption can be finalized, NTSRI requires that a second visit, to the prospective adopter's home, also be made by an NTSRI volunteer.

Once you have chosen a rescued Samoyed (or the Sammy has chosen you!), our standard Rescue Adoption Agreement (different from the initial Application) must be signed.  A requested adoption donation of $200 helps to defray NTSRI's costs.  On average, NTSRI's actual expenditure for each dog we rescue is $300-400.  So, as you can see, your adoption donation covers only a small portion of what we actually spend; however, it does help us to continue saving Samoyed lives.

For more detailed information on our adoption policy, contact us at ntsfrescue@aol.com. Click here to download our Adoption Application, which, when completed, can be e-mailed to sluderl@aol.com or  ntsfrescue@aol.com

Annie Photo not yet available

Annie, along with Buddy (below), was rescued by animal services from a home where they had known nothing but neglect for approximately six (6) years!!!!  Despite this, Annie is remarkably well behaved and miraculously was heartworm-free. She has taken very well to living in a house for the first time in her life, and she has had no "accidents" in her foster home.

Annie is a bit insecure without her companion Buddy, and we would prefer to place the two of them together, if at all possible, because of this.

Buddy

Buddy was rescued, with his companion Annie (above) by animal services, after having suffered through six years of neglect.  Like Annie, he was miraculously heartworm-free, in spite of having lived outdoors continuously for such a long time.  Buddy is the more confident of the two.  He is very sweet and well-behaved and, like Annie, has really made himself comfortable with his new, indoor environment and is completely housebroken.  Buddy loves attention and affection!

As stated above, we would prefer to place Annie and Buddy together, since they have never been apart.

Noelle

Noelle is a Sammy mix -- possibly with Finnish Spitz. She was rescued from an Arkansas shelter and transported to NTSRI in Texas.  She is young -- probably about 3 years old. Noelle has blossomed under the care of her foster "mom" and is no longer as insecure as she was when she first came to NTSRI.  She craves attention and companionship -- either from humans or other dogs.  She plays very well with the other animals in her foster home (which include both dogs and cats) and loves to run and play chase with the other dogs in the back yard. Noelle is spayed, and she's heartworm-free and on preventative.

Penny

Penny was rescued from a local shelter when she was only 3 months old.  She is now two years old and has been spayed.  She's a lively little girl who loves to play.  If a "real" toy isn't immediately available, she's been known to prance around her foster mom's back yard with a rock or stick in her mouth. Penny gets along well with other dogs and loves to play chase with her foster "brothers" and "sisters."  She would do well in a home with children or another dog. Penny would no doubt make an excellent agility dog, with her high energy  level and outgoing  personality.

Sarah

Sarah is probably a mix. She is about 5 years old, very sweet and affectionate, and gets along with most other dogs.

Sarah first came into the NTSRI program as a very young puppy (about 3 months old).  She had already been spayed at that time. Her first home turned out not to be a "forever" one, unfortunately, since her family moved to the country and did not want to keep her.  But all things work out for the best, and the perfect home for Sarah is out there waiting for her!

The ideal home for Sarah will be one where she is made a part of a family.  Sarah would probably love to be in a home with children to romp with her. She has had some obedience training and is well-mannered and very affectionate.

Wendy

Wendy is the newest arrival in the NTSRI program.  She found herself in rescue after her owner died.  She has been to the vet already and is heartworm-free and now current on vaccinations.  Currently, she is being evaluated for temperament.

Wendy is a "Silver Sammy" - about 8 years of age. As you can see by the comical picture, though, she promises to be full of personality and life, a typical Sammy, and we feel certain she will make someone a wonderful pet!
